Allow us to introduce you to the Sudan Challenge.
This Challenge was originated as a means of bridging the cultural gap between two peoples: Americans and Sudanese. Our stated corporate purpose is “to raise awareness of the condition of the Sudanese people and to assist in advancing their quality of life.”
Sudan has faced daunting challenges since it gained independence in 1956. A long-running civil war has kept much of the population in poverty. There are continuing rampages in the Darfur region in which over 300,000 have been killed and two million made refugees. Martial law and numerous human rights abuses add to the misery of the Sudanese people.
Our contact in Sudan is an American who has been living in Khartoum for 10 years and oversees a secular English-language school licensed by the Sudanese Ministry of Education. The school, whose students include the children and grandchildren of Sudanese leaders, currently enrolls 160. Now operating in a crowded rental space, the school needs money for land and construction of a permanent building. "We are educating some of the Sudanese leaders of tomorrow. If we can help these children learn to question, think, tolerate, love and learn from others, those principles could conceivably fashion the thinking of nation-states down the road."
Our current Challenge is to raise money to build a school, a women's center and an adult English-language and computer training center in the country’s capital of Khartoum. When you join us in this Challenge you should know that 100% of your donation will go directly to this cause.
On behalf of the Sudanese people, thank you in advance for your support.
